A few weeks ago I took RTA's Healthline from the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic Public Square. I was planning to meet up with a friend of mine over at Progressive Field to watch the Indians face the White Sox. After grabbing some bagels at a local convenience store, I went to the stadium and sat down at one of the picnic benches near the right field dugout.

For the past three years as a (non-Greek) Case student, I have entrusted my hundred-plus dollar Student Activity Fee (SAF) to the Student Executive Committee (SEC). Like many other students, I have hoped that they would judiciously divide and supervise the funds among the "big five" umbrella organizations, which purport to benefit the entire student body and provide a rich campus experience.

Next week an important decision will be put in front of the student body. Tucked into the freshmen [USG] elections is a referendum that was petitioned for last year. The referendum is to decide whether or not Greek Life on this campus should remain fully funded.

The right to a free press is the oldest Jonas brother of the Bill of Rights. It's not as dreamy as the right to bear arms or as funny as the right to a public trial. We forget that it has just as much talent. Objectivity in a newsroom, while never perfect, is essential to the democratic exchange of ideas.
